True, there aren't many Amish people of color. We confess, we don't know any. But the Amish are descended from Swiss German immigrants, and unlike their Mennonite brethren, do not evangelize outside their ranks or send missionaries to anyone. Converts to Amish society are indeed rare.
But we felt that people of color might want representative dolls for their children to love. So why not offer them in Amish dress?
We think Red David & Rachel, Green David & Rebecca and Blue David & Elizabeth were meant to be together-- but you can name them and do anything with them you like. Give them to a child, use them as a decorative accent for your home, or give them as separate gifts. You decide! These dolls of color are brand new to the store, so we're just trying them out in the three dress colors of red, green and blue to start. But if you would like to custom order the purple or brown dress that we feature in the other Amish dolls, we'd be happy to accommodate you. We will also be happy to mix and match different dolls. Custom orders may take an extra week or two. Please just e-mail or call us.
Doll Dimensions (both Boy and Girl):
15" tall
11 1/2" arm span
2 1/2" thick
Both dolls have brown face, arms, and front torso, while the back of their head, torso back, and legs are black.
Dress:
David comes with straw hat (sewn onto head), a blue, green or red shirt, and black pants with suspenders.
Rachel, Elizabeth and Rebecca comes with black bonnet (ribbon tie at neck), full-length red, blue or green dress, and black apron.
None of the dolls has any buttons or zippers, as the Amish don't view those notions as being "plain."
